Medellín
My impressions
Bad impressions are quicker to form and slower to fade. They linger like cigarette smoke in a black-and-white film noir, filling the atmosphere but not really there, disappearing into the void, only to be replaced by another waft as the characters exhale their next puffs. In Medellín, and across Colombia, historical stigmas have yet to fade, and though progress continues, much work remains. Like every urban environment, especially those with less fortunate economic circumstances, care and consideration should be taken; but as with people, it’s what’s inside that counts. Explore museums, cathedrals, and alleyways where the city’s vibrant cultural heritage comes alive. A long weekend reveals its charm, allowing the city to create new impressions and perhaps old change perspectives.
